Mungiki Leaders Embrace Islam Source: Impact International, Dec 2000 Thirteen leaders of the Mungiki sect traveled from Kenya’s central province to Mombassa, 500 km south of Nairobi, to embrace Islam. Officials of the Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya received them in Mombassa. Among the leaders who accepted Islam was the national coordinator of the Mungiki organization Mr. Ndura Waruinge. Since this happened, every week an average of one hundred members of the group have been coming to Islam. The word Mungiki means multitude in Kikuyu language. The Mungiki members are conservatively estimated at 300,000. | ||||||||
